N Rangasamy, a BJP ally, was sworn in as the chief minister of the Union Territory at a brief ceremony held at the Raj Nivas in Puducherry on Friday.
While according approval for withdrawing the special duty, the LG on Thursday directed that all bars and retail sellers of liquor and restaurants to follow safety norms.
The decision has infuriated the PMK, which enjoys sizable support among the powerful Vanniyar community, which behaves and acts like a cadre-based party.
Outgoing Chief Minister of Puducherry and senior Congress leader, V Narayanasamy said that tons of money and Central agencies were used by the Union government led by the BJP to topple the secular government led by him in Puducherry. He was speaking to IANS in a telephonic interview.
The LG’s direction comes after the Leader of the Opposition in Puducherry N. Rangasamy met the Lt Governor on Wednesday and again today.
Rao had been in constant war with Bedi for the last three and half years, over several key issues that were handled by ministries’ under him.
Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has been given the additional charge of Puducherry.
The Congress’s strength in the assembly has reduced to 10 as the BJP is trying to make inroads with the help of the AIADMK and the NR Congress in the Union Territory.
Narayanasamy also announced 100 units of free electricity to those below the poverty line.
It is also reportedly said that Mehroof was suffering from kidney diseases and was a heart patient too.
