A glacier broke off in Joshimath in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Sunday, causing a massive flood in the Dhauli Ganga river and endangering the lives of people living along its banks. Massive destruction is feared.

According to the details, a dam of the Tapovan power project was breached. Reports suggested that the dam has been washed away. Teams of ITBP and SDRF personnel were rushed to the affected areas to rescue the villagers and locals.
In Chamoli, alerts have been made in several districts including Haridwar as a precautionary measure following the glacier burst. The Haridwar DM has directed to evacuate the areas along the Ganga in view of the threat.
