CBI Recruitment: The Direct Process, Eligibility, Selection Process, and Salary  

The sub-inspector in the CBI is appointed at Group B level, working on which salary is given per month as per the pay matrix level 7 (44,900 to Rs. 1, 42400) of the 7th Pay Commission. Besides, many other monthly allowances and facilities are also provided.

The CBI usually provides the opportunity to work on the basis of promotion or deputation, but this major investigation agency of the country also gives an opportunity to get a job through direct recruitment. Candidates who meet the prescribed qualification criteria through the direct recruitment process can also get government jobs in CBI.

Direct Recruitment Options in CBI

The most prominent option for direct recruitment in CBI is recruitment as Sub-Inspector. Recruitment to the posts of Sub-Inspector in CBI under The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India is done through combined graduate level (CGL) examination conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC). The CGL exam is done by SSC every year. Candidates are selected for appointment to Group B and Group C posts in central government ministries and departments through CGL examination. Out of these posts, group B level post is also one of the posts of sub-inspector in CBI.

CBI Recruitment Qualification for Sub-Inspector

The SSC CGL examination conducted for direct recruitment of sub-inspector in CBI includes candidates who have passed a bachelor’s degree in any subject from a recognised university. Also, the age of candidates should not exceed 30 years in the cut-off date in the year of examination.

The application process for the SSC CGL examination for the year 2020 is in progress for which the cut-off date has been fixed on 31st January 2021. The maximum age limit is relaxed for the reserved category candidates, which is 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC St, 10 years for PWDs.

Recruitment Selection Process CBI 

The CGL exam for direct recruitment of sub-inspectors in CBI consists of four stages – Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4. In Tier 1 and Tier 2 examinations of the first phase, questions are asked from the subjects of general intelligence and reasoning, general information, quantitative aptitude, English, statistics etc. In this phase, successful candidates are required to appear in tier 3 written examination in which candidates have to solve detailed answer questions. 

Then the final stage tier 4 is a computer proficiency test/examination. Data entry is a skill test. The prescribed syllabus for various phases of CGL examination can be obtained from the notification. The list of candidates declared successful in all phases is sent by the Commission to the concerned departments for the appointment.

Salary of Sub-Inspector in CBI

The sub-inspector in the CBI is appointed at Group B level, working on which salary is given per month as per the pay matrix level 7 (44,900 to Rs. 1, 42400) of the 7th Pay Commission. Besides, many other monthly allowances and facilities are also provided.
