People of Madhya Pradesh will now be required to provide a character certificate for their Driving Licence. This initiative was taken by the Shivraj government to crack down on the growing number of criminals and crime against women in Madhya Pradesh.
In Madhya Pradesh, the driving licenses of people engaged in crime with women will be suspended.
Driving licenses of accused to be canceled with immediate effect
According to instructions from the Police Training and Research Institute (PTRI), police headquarters, “all regional and district transport authorities have been instructed to revoke the licenses of the accused who committed serious crimes against women with immediate effect immediately after receiving information from the police department”. However, transport authorities will be able to revoke a criminal’s driving license only if the aggrieved woman has filed a police case against the offender.
Madhya Pradesh: New holders have to give character certificates to get licenses
If a new person wants to get his/her license in the state, they must be required to provide their character certificate. Only after the verification of the character certificate will a new holder be able to obtain their license. Following a directive from the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety Implementation Committee, PTRI Police Headquarters, transport authorities have issued a letter to all RTOs.
