ChatGPT UPI Payments: ChatGPT users in India may be able to make payments directly through the AI platform soon. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT has partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and fintech company Razorpay to bring this feature to India’s fast-growing digital payments ecosystem. The feature is already being tested and BigBasket is the first platform to use it. This means people can choose the UPI payment option inside ChatGPT and complete their payments quickly.
Axis Bank and Airtel Payments Bank are the first banks to support this trial. OpenAI said the goal is to make payments “secure, autonomous, and user-controlled.” This is the first time ChatGPT will handle real time payments in India, which is one of the fastest growing fintech markets in the world.
How the New Feature Works?
The main goal of this trial project is to make ChatGPT do more than just give information. People will be able to find products or services and pay for them in the same chat. This way, they won’t need to open other websites or apps. Experts call this kind of AI “agentic AI,” which means the AI can do tasks for users, like making payments or booking services, instead of only giving answers.
To make payments safe and easy, the system will use UPI’s “UPI Reserve” feature. This feature lets users keep a certain amount of money reserved with a seller, which they can use later to finish the payment. With this extra safety step, OpenAI wants users to feel more confident trusting AI to make payments.
