Chhattisgarh has got its first quarantine centre for pregnant woman who returned from different states amid the coronavirus lockdown. The centre currently has 8 women quarantined and all are migrant workers. The facility has been set up at a community health centre in Kesla village, some 120 kilometres from Bilaspur.

According to a senior official, “On the instructions of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, special facilities are being provided to pregnant women, children and senior citizens in quarantine centres. The first quarantine centre for pregnant women has come up in Kesla village of Bilaspur district”.

Nutritional food, screening facilities and protective gear are available at the centre, which is sanitised three times a day, and medical personnel have been deployed round the clock, he added.

Chhattisgarh’s Health Secretary Niharika Barik Singh said that the department has instructed all districts to make separate arrangements for pregnant women.

Singh further added, “Pregnant women need better food and nutrition hence we have decided for a separate arrangement … We have also instructed officials that in case any woman wants to stay with her family then let her. Besides, we have advised the district officials to keep an ambulance ready near these quarantine centres”.

The Chief Minister of the state is personally keeping an eye on the quarantine centers. He recently interacted with labourers, women and sarpanch of villages besides District Collectors.

On Saturday, 2,31,536 people, mostly migrants, were kept in 19,732 quarantine centres in the state, while 52,997 were in home isolation. Chhattisgarh has confirmed 997 COVID-19 cases, active cases are 734 as 259 patients have been recovered so far. The death toll stands at 4.
