Chhattisgarh Elections 2018: The nomination period has begun and candidates are coming to buy nomination papers to the collector’s office. A bizarre incident took place on Friday in Chhattisgarh’s Kawardha district when an independent candidate Sunil Sahu came to the collector’s office with a sack of coins worth Rs 10,000 to buy a nomination paper.

There were coins of Rs 1, Rs 5, and Rs 10. The sack had 3,000 coins of Rs 1, Rs 4,400 coins of Rs 5, and 200 coins of Rs 10. With total 7,600 coins in the sack, it weighed 32 kg.

The officials were astonished to see the candidate with a sack full of coins. Sahu pulled the sack and placed it on the Collector’s table before asking for the nomination form. The speechless officials could not say ‘No’ for the rules stipulate that no one can refuse to accept legal tender.

However, they began the counting of the coins only after seeking permission from the deputy returning officer JK Dhruv. It took them three hours to complete the exercise.
