Colombia draws with Spain; Canada in U17 Women’s World Cup quarters

Montevideo, Nov 18 (IANS) Colombia and Spain drew 1-1 in their second Group D match, while Canada beat South Korea 2-0 and thus qualified for the quarterfinals of the U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay.

Spain on Saturday began by leading their match against the South Americans thanks to a goal by Maria Isabel Okoye after 52 minutes, but Colombia quickly managed to draw with a goal by Gisela Robledo only a minute later, reports Efe.

Canada beat South Korea 2-0 with goals from Jordyn Huitema and Lara Kazandjian, in the 59th and 74th minutes, and has now qualified for the quarterfinals with two wins in two games.

On the final date of the group stage which will be played on Nov. 21, Spain will face Canada at the Charrua stadium in Montevideo, while Colombia will face South Korea in the Alberto Suppici stadium in Colonia.

In Group C, the two teams who lost on their first day, North Korea and Cameroon, defeated those who had won, the United States and Germany.

In this way, all the teams are left with the same score, with one more match for all to finish the group stage.

North Korea beat the United States 3-0 with goals from Ri Kum Hyang, Kim Yun Ok and Kim Kyong Yong in the 25th, 32nd and 52nd minutes.

Cameroon, for their part, beat Germany 1-0 with a goal from Alice Kameni in the 54th minute.

With all four teams having three points on the table, the final match will determine which two will advance to the quarter-finals.
