Every year on September 6, Color Blind Awareness Day is observed. The day aims to aware people about the issue of color vision deficiency and also a collective effort towards providing services to them.
Color blindness is a color vision deficiency inherited condition in which the ones suffering have difficulty in differentiating between certain colors such as blue and red etc. the condition is said to affect 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women.
Significance of Color Blindness Awareness Day
On this day we talk about each and every aspect of color blindness to spread awareness. From the very beginning which includes the diagnosis process and access to the tests also is an integral part when awareness is being spread about the condition. The day also aims at making the life of color blind people easier.
The main reason behind this condition is a change or reduction of sensitivity of one or more of the light-sensitive cone cells in the eye.

There are three main types of CVD (Color Vision Deficiency)
- Protanomaly – Reduces sensitivity to red.
- Deuteranomaly – Affects sensitivity to green – Most common
- Tritanomaly – Reduces sensitivity to blue light – Rarest
Apart from organizing Color Blindness Awareness day, a Color Blindness Awareness movement also seeks to integrate the 300 million people worldwide affected in day-to-day life: arts, sports, school, businesses.
