In a strange incident, Congress Madhya Pradesh unit spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi claimed that on Sunday afternoon he received a message on his phone that congratulated him on becoming a BJP member. The message also gave him a membership number – 4001131248. He was also given a link to fill details about him.
“Congratulations on joining the BJP family. Your membership number is 4000676454. After clicking on the following link pls submit your details,” the message said.
Chaturvedi said he will lodge an FIR with the cyber cell of Madhya Pradesh police to expose, what he said, was a fraud by the BJP to show its inflated number of members across the country. He alleged it to be part of a massive exercise by the BJP to fudge its membership figures.
Reacting to the incident, the BJP’s state media in-charge Lokendra Parashar did acknowledge that the message was from his party but also said nothing happens on its own.
