Congress tops Rajasthan bypolls, wins 39 of 74 Panchayat Samiti seats

The bypolls took place on Sunday, June 30. The results were announced by the State Election Commission on Tuesday, 2 July.

After failing to win even a single seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan, the Congress has something to cheer for, as the party bagged 39 of 74 panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad polls that took place in 26 districts of the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party came second, winning 29 seats, while six seats went to the independent candidates.

As many as fifteen candidates were elected unopposed, eight of them belonged to the Congress, two to the BJP, the rest were independent candidates.

The bypolls took place on Sunday, June 30. The results were announced by the State Election Commission on Tuesday, 2 July.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, the panchayati election results declared today are pleasent. Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot said people had reposed faith in the party.

“It marks the reposing of the faith of people in the Congress Party. Bypolls were conducted across the state. I thank all party workers and supporters,” Pilot said.

In the Assembly election that took place in December 2018 here, Congress won 99 seats in the state that has a 200 seat legislative constituency. Congress’ MLA count reach to 100 after they won Assembly bypolls for the Ramgarh constituency.
