Controversial naturopath Mohanan Vaidyar arrested for making fake claims of COVID19 treatment

A controversial naturopath Mohanan Vaidyar was arrested for claiming that he could provide treatment for coronavirus (COVID-19) in Kerala’s Thrissur on Wednesday. He was arrested from an Ayurvedic Centre at Pattikkad in Thrissur where he claimed he to have a cure of COVID19,  it got raided by police and health department officials.

The raid was done by police after authorities received a secret tipoff that Mohanan Vaidyar was giving treatment for COVID-19.

Following this, a case was charged against him and he was arrested from his clinic.

Twenty four people have been currently under treatment for COVID-19 at the various medical colleges in Kerala and the government has issued stringent directions that those spreading fake news and false claims on COVID-19 will face strict action.

However, the government is trying its best to prevent the further spread of the disease in the state.

Accused Mohanan has been arrested under Sections 419 (Punishment for cheating by personation), 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 269 (Negligent act likely to spread infection of disease danger­ous to life), 270 (Malignant act likely to spread infection of disease danger­ous to life) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 17(4) of the Indian Medicine Central Council Act, which directs imprisonment for any non-qualified medical practitioner.
