COVID-19 outbreak: Corona enters VIP areas of Agra

Agra: After the common man in the mohallas and besties in the inner city, the Covid-19 virus has spread to posh colonies, bungalows of ‘sahabs’, besides the rural blocks.

After the Divisional Commissioner Anil Kumar, his mother, five of his staff tested positive, his father has also been infected. Two officials of the PWD have also been quarantined after they reported positive.

The SN Medical College principal and two dozen doctors are already under treatment. Senior officials, family members of the local MP and a BJP legislator, son of a state minister, are in hospitals.

Policemen on duty have not been spared either. After an inspector was found positive, the entire police chowki of Bichpuri has been quarantined. Nine inmates of the temporary jail at Queen Victoria Inter College, have been isolated after their reports were found positive.

A number of social workers and activists are under treatment in isolation centres.

“It is clear that government officials and medical staff are vulnerable as they daily come into contact with the public,” a doctor explained. After the Unlock3.0, chances of infection spread have increased as a large number of people are seen without masks and violating guidelines in the marketplaces.

In the past 24 hours, Agra reported 30 fresh cases, taking the total number to 2,031. The number of active cases now are 299. The number of containment zones has gone up to 121. Of this 51 are in the rural areas.

The weekend lockdown for 55 hours began late Friday evening. The Agra Municipal Corporation has taken up sanitation work on a large scale during the mini lockdown.

Mathura reported 30 new cases, while Firozabad 26, Mainpuri 22, Kasganj 15. In Etah two policemen are among five who reported positive.

The district administration in Mathura has sealed the borders to ensure no pilgrims entered the temple towns of Vrindavan or Govardhan for the Sri Krishna Janamashtami celebrations. All temples in the district continue to remain closed.
