Coronavirus Bihar updates: Uday Singh Kumawat has been appointed as new Principal Secretary of Bihar’s Health Department. Sanjay Kumar has been transferred to Tourism Department Bihar.

With 60 new coronavirus positive cases, Bihar COVID-19 case surged to 1579 and death toll stands at 8. All 38 districts are infected by the virus. Capital city Patna has been declared as coronavirus hotspot zone.

As per the latest update by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 475 patients have been cured and discharged in the state, while eight deaths have been reported so far due to the infection.

Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday stated that there is a need to expand online education system as institutes of the state are closed for around two months because of the COVID-19 induced lockdown.

CM directed the officials concerned to show e-content to students through Doordarshan Bihar and take measures to increase the time slot on the channel for providing class-wise education to all students, according to an official release.

Amid the lockdown, Cyclone Amphan is likely to trigger moderate to heavy rain across Bihar in the next four days. Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Amphan was located near 18.3N 86.9E, about 470 km south-southwest of Kolkata on Tuesday, 11:30 p.m. IST. Its maximum wind speed reached 185 kmph, and at gust, 230 kmph. Amphan has since moved north-northeastward at 17 kmph during the early hours of Wednesday, and it continues to move north-northeastward, towards north Bay of Bengal, on Wednesday. Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are possible over West Bengal, Bihar, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
