Coronavirus: Gujarat govt announces closure of Statue Of Unity, national parks till March 29

It will be for the first time since its inauguration in 2018 that Statue Of Unity would be closed for over two weeks

Vadodara: Tourists coming from different parts of the country as well as the world to view the world’s tallest statue for days to come may get disappointed. The state government has announced the closure of Statue of Unity (SoU) in Kevadia till the end of March in the wake of coronavirus scare, the new bookings have been scrapped.

It will be for the first time since its inauguration in 2018 that Statue Of Unity would be closed for over two weeks.

Chief Wildlife Warden Shyamal Tikadar’s circular stated that “the state’s national parks, sanctuaries, and conservation reserves will be closed till March 29.”

Other Sites that would be facing lockdown include Sakkarbaug Zoological Park in Junagadh, Devaliya Safari Park and Ambardi Safari Park, which attract large crowds eager to sight the Asiatic lion.

As per the circular, it states, as per powers vested in the Chief Wildlife Warden, vide the provisions of Section 27 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, all national parks, sanctuaries, and conservation reserve of Gujarat shall remain closed for visitors from March 17 to March 29, it said.
