Coronavirus in Bihar: 7,500 nurses to be appointed in hospitals to curb COVID-19

Given the spike in coronavirus cases in Bihar, the state’s health department has prepared an immediate appointment of about 7500 A-grade nurses (GNM), health officials said.

In 2019, the Bihar health department had appointed 9,130 A-grade nurses and 169 tutors in the state-run hospitals. The process of appointment was initiated through the Technical Services Selection Commission.

As per reported by Hindustan, the process of selection of the A-grade nurses has been completed so far. Therefore, the health department has decided to appoint selected nurses for the immediate treatment of COVID-19 patients in the state.

The total number of A-grade nurses presently in the state is around 4,500. However, given the health facilities, the state needs at least 20,000 A-grade nurses, as per the reports.

A-grade nurses appointed in the state-run hospitals are now given a pay scale of 9,300-34,000 and a grade pay of 46,00. These nurses are deployed from the State Medical College to the first aid center.

The Bihar health department has recently appointed 929 specialist doctors. With this, the process of appointment of 4,000 general practitioners have also been initiated.

Meanwhile, with 3,416 new cases of COVID-19, Bihar’s total number of infections tally have surged to 68,148. The coronavirus testing in Bihar has been increased to over 50,000 per day. 51,924 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours. Altogether 7,39,000 tests have been conducted so far. The recovery rate stands at over 64.30%.

The Covid-19 tally in India rose to 19,64,536 on Thursday after over 56,000 fresh cases were reported within 24 hours. The death toll also increased from 39,795 to 40,699, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Health Affairs. For a week now, India has reported a daily increase of over 50,000 in fresh coronavirus cases pushing the country’s tally to over 19 lakh cases. At 51,700, the number of recoveries was also the highest-ever for a single day on Wednesday.

Maharashtra reported the highest single-day spike of 11,514 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the state’s tally to 4,79,779. The death toll reached 16,792 as 336 more lives were lost due to coronavirus.
