Coronavirus in Delhi: Highest single-day rise in national capital since September 25

As many as 47 fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department.

The national capital, Delhi has reported 3,686 fresh coronavirus cases on Wednesday taking the total tally of infections to 3.40 lakh.  Before this, Delhi recorded a maximum of 3,827 cases of Covid-19 on September 25.

As many as 47 fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department. According to a health bulletin issued by the Delhi government, 59,064 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.

On October 10 and on September 29, too 48 fatalities were reported in the city, which was the highest number of deaths recorded in a day since July 16 when Delhi recorded 58 fatalities.

“The increase in cases may be due to rise in the number of tests being conducted through RT-PCR, which is considered the gold standard for Covid-19 testing. In the last 24 hours, 59,064 tests were conducted. Of this, record 16,629 tests were conducted using RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat. The rest, 42,435 tests, were conducting using rapid antigen test kits,” a senior official said to the Times of India.

The case tally stands at 3,40,436 in the national capital, including 3,10,191 patients who have either been discharged, or have migrated or recovered. The number of active cases is 24,117, of which 14,227 are in home isolation.

India’s coronavirus count has touched 77.06 with a jump of 55,839 cases in the last 24 hours, government data shows. 702 deaths in the last 24 hours have pushed the total death count to 1,16,616.

68,74,518 people in the country have recovered since the beginning of the pandemic. The country has been reporting a steady decline in its daily coronavirus infections after reaching a peak of about 90,000 cases a day in September.

Meanwhile, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has become the second position amongst the world’s safest airports. The Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) said that ‘Safe Travel Barometer’ has certified Delhi airport as the second safest airport for effective implementation of coronavirus health and safety protocols.

“Close on the heels of Singapore Changi Airport, which scored 4.7 out of 5, Delhi’s IGI Airport has bagged the second position in the ‘Safe Travel Barometer’s’ list by scoring 4.6,” DIAL said in a statement.

Besides, Frankfurt Airport and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport have also secured the second position, each tied at 4.6 out of 5.
