Coronavirus LIVE Updates: Covid-19 cases in India has now crossed 1.45 lakh while the death toll is over 4,100. India's total figure includes 80,722 patients with the disease and 60,490 who have been treated and discharged and 4,167 deaths.

792 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours, which is the highest single-day spike in infections in the National Capital so far. The total number of coronavirus cases rose to 15,257 on Wednesday.

A passenger onboard Air India’s Delhi-Ludhiana flight tested positive for Covid-19 today, following which all those in the flight were placed under state quarantine. The passenger, who works in the security department of Alliance Air, was traveling on a paid ticket. The incident comes just a day after a 24-year-old passenger who took the Chennai-Coimbatore IndiGo flight tested positive for the coronavirus, with test results of a few other passengers being awaited as of Tuesday evening. According to people aware of the flight details, 93 passengers had travelled in the flight.

On Tuesday, United States became the world’s first country whose COVID-19 death toll has crossed the 100,000-mark. According to Worldometer trackerthe number of fatalities jumped to 100,046. as per Tuesday late night figures.

Sixteen new COVID-19 cases were reported in Assam as of 11.55 pm on Tuesday, said health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Of the new cases, six were reported in Hojai and Golaghat each, two in Darrang while one each in Kamrup Metro and Kamrup.

India reported 6,535 coronavirus cases and 146 deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 1,45,380 and the total fatalities to 4,167.

The number of active COVID-19 cases climbed to 80,722. As many as 60,490 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, the Union health ministry said.

This came on a day that the Supreme Court took note of the plight of migrants stranded due to the lockdown and issued notices to the Centre and all state governments.

A total of 1,51,767 cases have been reported from the country in which 64,426 persons have been cured with the recovery rate being pegged at 42.4%, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Wednesday. The fatality rate is 2.86% whereas the world average is 6.36%, the Ministry said.

Study says social distancing norms of 6 feet insufficient, virus can travel nearly 20 feet

Scientists have modelled the spread of infectious droplets from coughing, sneezing, and breathing under different atmospheric conditions, and found that the novel coronavirus can spread up to three times further in cold and humid weather.

According to the researchers, including those from the University of California (UC) Santa Barbara in the US, droplets carrying the virus can travel up to 20 feet, making the current social distancing norms of six feet insufficient to contain its spread.

Based on previous research, they said as many as 40,000 respiratory droplets can be generated by sneezing, coughing, and even normal talking, with initial speeds ranging from a few metres per second to more than a hundred meters per second.

Delhi reports 792 new COVID-19 cases, highest single-day spike

792 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours, which is the highest single-day spike in infections in the National Capital so far. The total number of coronavirus cases rose to 15,257 on Wednesday.

"The toll in the city rose to 303 after 15 more casualties were updated by the state health department after examining the death summaries shared by the hospitals," the report said.

Maha Vikas Aghadi holds joint presser on COVID-19 situation in Maharashtra

Addressing a joint press conference of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra, Congress leader and state minister Balasaheb Thorat said that the government was working to alleviate the problems being faced by migrant workers in the state.

He said, "It has been two months since lockdown. We are all working together under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray. We are a major industrial hub. The number of our migrant labourers is also high. Each day, we are giving 7 lakh meals."

He also said that the coronavirus in Mumbai "continues to be a concern".

"Mumbai continues to be a matter of concern but the chief minister is making sure, nobody is inconvenienced. We had expected cooperation from the Opposition but they have opened new avenues to destabilise us. But we will not let them succeed," he added.

Recovery rate stands at 42.4% says Centre

The Union health ministry on Wednesday said that of a total of 1,51,767 COVID-19 cases reported in the country so far, 64,426 persons have been cured and the recovery rate is pegged at 42.4 percent.

"The fatality rate is 2.86 percent whereas the world average is 6.36 percent," the statement said.

India's testing capacity has increased, says Centre

"The testing capacity has increased in the country through 435 government laboratories and 189 private laboratories (total of 624 labs). Cumulatively, 32,42,160 samples have been tested so far for COVID-19, whereas, 1,16,041 samples were tested on Tuesday," a statement by the Union health ministry said on Wednesday.

Two passengers found dead on Shramik train in Varanasi

Two passengers travelling on a Shramik Special train were found dead on Wednesday morning when it reached Manduadih railway station in Varanasi from Mumbai.
