A passenger onboard Air India’s Delhi-Ludhiana flight tested positive for Covid-19 today, following which all those in the flight were placed under state quarantine. The passenger, who works in the security department of Alliance Air, was traveling on a paid ticket. The incident comes just a day after a 24-year-old passenger who took the Chennai-Coimbatore IndiGo flight tested positive for the coronavirus, with test results of a few other passengers being awaited as of Tuesday evening. According to people aware of the flight details, 93 passengers had travelled in the flight.

Scientists have modelled the spread of infectious droplets from coughing, sneezing, and breathing under different atmospheric conditions, and found that the novel coronavirus can spread up to three times further in cold and humid weather.
According to the researchers, including those from the University of California (UC) Santa Barbara in the US, droplets carrying the virus can travel up to 20 feet, making the current social distancing norms of six feet insufficient to contain its spread.
Based on previous research, they said as many as 40,000 respiratory droplets can be generated by sneezing, coughing, and even normal talking, with initial speeds ranging from a few metres per second to more than a hundred meters per second.

According to the latest health department data, Tamil Nadu recorded the highest single-day spike in cases with 817 more people tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Wednesday. The total number of cases in the state has mounted to 18,545. Six more people have died, bringing the death toll to 133.
Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 60 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in the state as of 6.30 pm on Wednesday.

"The toll in the city rose to 303 after 15 more casualties were updated by the state health department after examining the death summaries shared by the hospitals," the report said.
Addressing a joint press conference of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra, Congress leader and state minister Balasaheb Thorat said that the government was working to alleviate the problems being faced by migrant workers in the state.
He said, "It has been two months since lockdown. We are all working together under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray. We are a major industrial hub. The number of our migrant labourers is also high. Each day, we are giving 7 lakh meals."
He also said that the coronavirus in Mumbai "continues to be a concern".
"Mumbai continues to be a matter of concern but the chief minister is making sure, nobody is inconvenienced. We had expected cooperation from the Opposition but they have opened new avenues to destabilise us. But we will not let them succeed," he added.
The Union health ministry on Wednesday said that of a total of 1,51,767 COVID-19 cases reported in the country so far, 64,426 persons have been cured and the recovery rate is pegged at 42.4 percent.
"The fatality rate is 2.86 percent whereas the world average is 6.36 percent," the statement said.
"The testing capacity has increased in the country through 435 government laboratories and 189 private laboratories (total of 624 labs). Cumulatively, 32,42,160 samples have been tested so far for COVID-19, whereas, 1,16,041 samples were tested on Tuesday," a statement by the Union health ministry said on Wednesday.
Two passengers travelling on a Shramik Special train were found dead on Wednesday morning when it reached Manduadih railway station in Varanasi from Mumbai.
