A record single-day jump of 8,380 new patients was reported in the 24 hours till Sunday morning. This is the first time that the number of coronavirus cases in India crossed the 8,000-mark in a single day.

The number of total deaths linked to the highly infectious illness crossed the 5,000-mark after 193 patients died in the 24 hours till Sunday morning, government data shows.

Coronavirus cases in Himachal Pradesh rise to 333

A total of 333 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Himachal Pradesh, including 208 active cases and five deaths, the state Health Department said on Monday.
 
According to officials, 116 people have recovered from the virus after treatment while four people have migrated out of the state.
 
Of the 333 cases, 111 are from Hamirpur district, 87 from Kangra, 38 from Una, 32 from Solan, 20 from Chamba, 18 Bilaspur, 12 Mandi, 9 Shimla, 4 Sirmour and two Kullu. No cases have been reported from Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti districts of the state.

12 migrant workers killed in road accident on Nepal highway

Twelve migrant workers were killed and 21 others sustained injuries in a road accident near Thuriya forest area in Banke District along the East-West Highway on Sunday midnight, the police said. The vehicle, which was ferrying Nepali migrant workers en route to Nepal's Salyan District from Bahraich District in Uttar Pradesh, rammed into a truck othe highway at around midnight in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
 
"The migrant workers were returning from India. The accident occurred at midnight. All the bodies, as well as those injured, were shifted to Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj city," Banke District Officer, Rambahadur Kurungwang told ANI.
 
Banke District's Police Officer, Inspector Hrideyesh Sapkota further informed that the vehicle seemed to be speeding and the driver lost control and hit the backside of a stationary truck on the roadside.
