Coronavirus tally in India surges to 1,98,370, and death toll has rose to 5,600 on Monday. On the first day of India’s unlocking phase, the number of fresh infections dipped slightly to 7,573, while the death toll remained above 200 for the fourth straight day.
Out of the 198,370 cases in India, Maharashtra accounts for 70,013, and the country’s death toll stands at 5,608.

A 35-day-old infant from Churachandpur district in Manipur, who was tested positive for Covid-19, was discharged on Tuesday. Manipur Health Department has termed the recovery of the baby boy a landmark achievement for the state.
The baby boy, along with his mother and aunt, was discharged from Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JINMS) Covid care facility after being tested negative for the virus in two consecutive RT-PCR tests, Manipur Health department said. They will continue to be home quarantine for the next 14 days, the department said.

A Covid-19 patient allegedly committed suicide Tuesday inside state-run GB Panth Hospital in Agartala, which was converted into a dedicated Covid Hospital.
Speaking to reporters, Additional Chief Secretary SK Rakesh said the 50-year-old woman was admitted in the hospital’s flu ward on Monday and her samples were collected for testing. “Her body was recovered from a lavatory of the hospital around 5 am. We received her test reports at 11 am, which confirmed she had coronavirus”, the official added.
Domestic air travel in the country is picking up the pace as 692 flights carrying 64,651 passengers operated on June 1 against 501 flights with 44,593 flyers the day before, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Tuesday.
Domestic services in India were suspended in March due to the coronavirus lockdown and resumed on May 25.
"Jump in the number of flyers from 44,593 on 31 May to 64,651 on 1st June is a welcome sign that our domestic operations are picking pace. Departures 692," Puri said on Twitter.
