Coronavirus tally in India surges to 1,98,370, and death toll has rose to 5,600 on Monday. On the first day of India’s unlocking phase, the number of fresh infections dipped slightly to 7,573, while the death toll remained above 200 for the fourth straight day.

Out of the 198,370 cases in India, Maharashtra accounts for 70,013, and the country’s death toll stands at 5,608.

Delhi has sealed its borders for a week amid a worrying surge in Covid-19 cases.

The national capital has over 20,000 coronavirus cases so far, and 473 deaths linked to the virus. The lockdown in containment zones will continue across the nation till June 30 but extensive relaxations, including opening of religious places and shopping malls, will start in a phased manner from June 8.

The global tally of coronavirus cases now stands at 6,362,138, and 377,152 people have died from the disease so far.

Manipur’s youngest COVID-19 patient recovers, discharged from hospital

A 35-day-old infant from Churachandpur district in Manipur, who was tested positive for Covid-19, was discharged on Tuesday. Manipur Health Department has termed the recovery of the baby boy a landmark achievement for the state.

The baby boy, along with his mother and aunt, was discharged from Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JINMS) Covid care facility after being tested negative for the virus in two consecutive RT-PCR tests, Manipur Health department said. They will continue to be home quarantine for the next 14 days, the department said.

Covid-19 patient commits suicide inside hospital lavatory in Tripura

A Covid-19 patient allegedly committed suicide Tuesday inside state-run GB Panth Hospital in Agartala, which was converted into a dedicated Covid Hospital.

Speaking to reporters, Additional Chief Secretary SK Rakesh said the 50-year-old woman was admitted in the hospital’s flu ward on Monday and her samples were collected for testing. “Her body was recovered from a lavatory of the hospital around 5 am. We received her test reports at 11 am, which confirmed she had coronavirus”, the official added.

692 domestic flights flew on Monday, operations picking up pace: Hardeep Puri

Domestic air travel in the country is picking up the pace as 692 flights carrying 64,651 passengers operated on June 1 against 501 flights with 44,593 flyers the day before, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Tuesday.

Domestic services in India were suspended in March due to the coronavirus lockdown and resumed on May 25.

"Jump in the number of flyers from 44,593 on 31 May to 64,651 on 1st June is a welcome sign that our domestic operations are picking pace. Departures 692," Puri said on Twitter.

Indian carriers operated a total of 4,062 flights till June 1 -- 428 on May 25, 445 on May 26, 460 on May 27, 494 on May 28, 513 on May 29, 529 on May 30, 501 on May 31 and 692 on June 1. (PTI)

Pakistan reports 3,938 new COVID-19 cases, death toll reaches 1,621

 
Pakistan's COVID-19 cases reached 76,398 on Tuesday after 3,938 new infections were reported across the country, while the death toll due to the coronavirus has gone up to 1,621, according to the health ministry.
 
The Ministry of National Health Services said that 78 COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of fatalities in Pakistan to 1,621. A total of 27, 110 people have recovered, it said.
 
Sindh has 29,647 patients, Punjab 27,850, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 10,485, Balochistan 4,514, Islamabad 2,893, Gilgit-Baltistan 738 and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir 271, it added. The authorities have conducted 577,974 tests, including 16,548 in the last 24 hours.
