India’s Covid tally surges to 2,00,745 with over 8,000 fresh infections and 219 deaths reported in a day. While people aged over 60 accounts for 38% of Covid-19 deaths in the country.
Of the 200,000-plus cases, Maharashtra accounts for the bulk, at over 7,2000. At more than 101,000, India has the fourth-highest number of active cases in the world. The first spot is still held by the US, which has more than 1.1 million active cases. In the past two months, Brazil and Russia, both with over 200,000 cases at present, have quickly surpassed Italy and Spain in active cases.
The global tally of coronavirus cases is 6,477,966, and 382,188 people have died from the disease so far.

Pakistan has reported a record 4,132 fresh cases of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of infections to 80,463, reported PTI quoting the health ministry.

Issuing a fresh notification on Tuesday, the Gujarat government has made hospitalisation mandatory for coronavirus testing, a move that drew strong opposition from the medical fraternity.
