India reported 9,851 new Covid-19 cases and 273 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s tally to 2,26,770. The death toll stands at 6,348. As per the health ministry, more than 70 per cent of the deaths are due to comorbidities.
The home ministry had last week said ”Unlock-1” will be initiated in the country from June 8 under which the nationwide lockdown, which came into effect from March 25, will be relaxed to a great extent, including opening of shopping malls, restaurants and religious places, though strict restrictions will remain in place till June 30 in the worst-hit areas.
The global tally of coronavirus cases is 6,697,133 and 393,102 people have died from the disease.

The WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris on Friday said, "It's not over until there is no virus anywhere in the world". People must continue to protect themselves against the coronavirus, she added.

The Maharastra Government on Friday issued an order that demands government officials to visit the office at least once in a week or face pay cut. "All employees, except those on sanctioned leave or medical leave, will need to be in office for one day in a week compulsorily," the order read.
Tamil Nadu on Friday reported 1,438 new coronavirus cases taking the tally to 28,694. There have been 12 deaths in the state today taking the death toll to 232.
The Supreme Court said that the states will be given 15 days to transport all migrant workers stranded in different cities on Friday. This comes after the top court took up the issue of stranded migrants on its own and passed several orders to the states to help them reach home.

Singapore's finance minister said its unemployment rate could rise to a record of over 100,000 in 2020 due to fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic, reports Reuters.

"The clinical trials will be conducted across 12 centres in India on 210 patients. The treatment duration for patients will be 10 days. The results of the clinical trials are expected by October 2020," it added.
The affidavit filed by the Centre before the Supreme Court, stated that the probe in the matter is being conducted on a day to basis in accordance with the law and all efforts are being made to submit a report in a time-bound manner.

A 19-year-old migrant woman, who was returning home in Odisha after being stuck in Telangana due to the lockdown, gave birth to a baby on a 'Shramik Special' train on Friday, railway officials said. The woman, identified as Meena Kumbhar of Thodibahal in Balangir district, was travelling in the Balangir-bound 'Shramik Special' train from Lingampali in Telangana when she complained of labour pain in the morning.
Petitioner Avishek Goenka told the court that private hospitals are charging exorbitant fees from Covid patients, making it inaccessible to most of them.
SC bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, M R Shah and V Ramasubramanian asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to file Centre's response on putting an upper limit on fees to be charged by private hospitals for treating Covid patients.
