Coronavirus India live updates: A noted health expert has predicted India may witness Covid cases peaking in mid-July if the current lockdown is lifted on May 30. Speaking to PTI, Professor and Head of Life Course Epidemiology at the Public Health Foundation of India Giridhara R Babu said that the country at present is definitely at a lower trajectory in terms of COVID-19 deaths compared to anywhere in the world which means it has contained the transmission of the virus to a great extent. “If the lockdown is lifted on May 30, then we will have peak around mid-July because if you take three incubations period, which is one-and-half months, that will be enough for you to know how the disease spreads when nothing is controlled,” he told PTI.
After a shut down of all activities which lasted 55 days, buses and private vehicles were allowed to ply the roads with certain restrictions in place; most shops have also been allowed to reopen, though different states have imposed their own rules.
Meanwhile, the ICMR said that a total of 25,12,388 samples have been tested by 9 am of Wednesday, and the testing capacity has been scaled up to 1 lakh tests per day. With less than 100 COVID-19 tests per day just two months ago, to a 1000-fold increase in just 60 days.
Globally, as many as 49 lakh confirmed cases have been reported worldwide with 3.2 lakh fatalities.

IndiGo on Thursday said it would be operating 97 repatriation flights between Kerala and four countries in the Middle East to bring back Indians stranded there amid the coronavirus pandemic.
"Adhering to all precautionary measures, the flights will be operated between Kerala and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Doha, Kuwait and Muscat," the airline said in a press release.
IndiGo has been granted nearly half of the total 180 repatriation flights allotted to private airlines, the budget carrier said.
