The Covid-19 pandemic continued to surge in India, with the number of fresh cases rising by 5,864 to 118,447 on Friday, the fifth single-day peak recorded in daily cases in the past six days. The death toll stands at 3,583.
The Union health ministry on Thursday said the period of lockdown has been gainfully utilised to “ramp up the health infrastructure”, with around 3,027 dedicated COVID-19 hospitals and 7,013 care centres being readied across the country to fight the disease.
“There are reports in a section of the media about some decisions of the government regarding the lockdown implementation and response to COVID-19 management. The period of the lockdown has been gainfully utilised to ramp up the health infrastructure in the country,” the ministry said.
Earlier, the aviation ministry also issued guidelines to be followed for re-operating of domestic flights.
Airlines will have to follow ticket price guidelines issued by the civil aviation ministry when they restart some domestic flights, two months after air travel was halted to fight the novel coronavirus, the government said on Thursday. A Delhi-Mumbai flight ticket will have to be priced between Rs 3,500 and 10,000 for the next three months, Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said.

ICMR's R Gangakhedkar, who was part of the health ministry's press briefing after an extended period of absence, on Friday said that 27,55,714 coronavirus tests have been conducted till 1 PM on Friday.
18,287 tests have been conducted in private labs, he added.
In a press briefing from the Union health ministry on Friday, of which the ICMR was also a part after a period of absence, said that the coronavirus mortality rate in the country has dropped from 3.13 percent to 3.02 percent.
