India recorded 62,482 cases on Thursday, taking the total caseload to 20,23,821, as per data collated from state governments. India has the fastest growth rate of the infection (3.1%). Globally, the death toll from the virus has crossed the 7-lakh mark, with over 18 million infections worldwide.
So far, India has recorded 20,23,821 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 40,699 deaths. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have reported the highest number of cases.
However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Assam and Karnataka. Yet, India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 67.6 percent. ‘Unlock 3.0’ is underway. Globally, there have been over 1.89 crore confirmed cases of COVID-19. More than 7.08 lakh people have died so far.

Over 60 per cent of coronavirus fatalities in Karnataka’s Bengaluru sought treatment three or more days after the first symptoms of illness emerged, a data of deaths across key hospitals in the city showed. Doctors and health officials are urging high-risk patients to reach out for treatment after the first signs of illness.
Treatment protocols at hospitals are now tuned to consider all patients arriving with severe respiratory illness and influenza-like illness as COVID cases, as the state government pushes efforts to reduce the number of fatalities from that in July.
This takes the total tally to 4,862. This includes 2,914 recoveries and a death toll of 75 deaths.
“I have tested positive for #COVID__19. Whilst I am doing fine, I am being under isolation on the recommendation of doctors,” he said in a tweet.
Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala wrote to Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah, wishing him an “early recovery.” In the letter dated August 6, the governor added that he got to know about the former CM testing positive for coronavirus via electronic media.
Siddaramaiah was admitted to Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru after he was tested positive for coronavirus, asymptomatic, a day after CM B S Yediyurappa was admitted for the same to the same hospital.
It is reported that ninety-three more people including 68 security personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, taking the northeastern state's tally to 1,948, a senior health official said today.
Of the total 1,948 COVID-19 cases, 700 are active as 1,245 have recovered from the disease and three have died, the official said.
Karnataka recorded a steady improvement in Covid-19 situation during the last week, Medical Education Minister said that the state crossed the 50 per cent benchmark of cumulative recoveries over active cases.

West Bengal recorded the highest single-day spike of 2,954 COVID-19 cases yesterday, which pushed the tally to 86,854, the health department said.
