Coronavirus outbreak: 2 arrested for forwarding fake messages

In a recent incident, two people were arrested by Chamarajanagar police for forwarding fake messages relating to the novel coronavirus and creating chaos in the Gundlupet.

The arrested have been identified as Nagendra and Lokesh.

The duo allegedly spread messages on social media that a resident of the Gundlupet town was tested positive for COVID-19.

Following the incident, the district health department had lodged a police complaint in this regard and the arrests were made based on the directions of Deputy Commissioner M R Ravi and SP H D Anand Kumar.

For the uninitiated, Google India confirms that an employee at their Bengaluru office has been tested positive for coronavirus. Google India has said in a statement that the employee was at the Bengaluru office for a few hours before showing symptoms.

Earlier on Thursday, Karnataka reported the first coronavirus death in India with the passing of a 76-year-old man who had returned from Saudi Arabia.

Two employees of tech giants Mindtree and Dell also tested positive for coronavirus in India.
