Coronavirus outbreak: Meghalaya govt orders closure of educational institutions for an indefinite period

Shillong: Meghalaya Government has decided to close all educational institutions in the state for an indefinite period from Tuesday. The decision was known to the public when the state health minister A L Hek in a suo moto statement in the State Legislative Assembly made this announcement on Monday.

AL Hek said in his statement that all educational institutions in the state will remain closed from Tuesday till further notice in view of the widespread casualty of coronavirus globally.

The Assam Government has also closed all schools, cinema halls and gyms from Monday till March 29.

Many other states across the country took similar measures to contain an outbreak of the deadly coronavirus.

The Assam State Zoo authority has also taken a decision to close the zoo for 10 days. Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden, Divisional forest officer (DFO), Tejas Mariswamy, has informed that the state zoo authorities to close it from March 16 to March 29, 2020.

A similar directive has been issued for other national parks and wildlife sanctuaries as well.

Kaziranga Wildlife Society (KWS) has suggested the Assam government to suspend tourist entries inside the national parks, sanctuaries and the Assam State Zoo with immediate effect.

The novel coronavirus, on the other hand, has turned itself from becoming a pandemic disease to a catastrophe. It has killed more than 6,400 worldwide, according to an estimate from John Hopkins University, which is tracking cases reported by the World Health Organization and additional sources.
