Coronavirus outbreak: Two coming from China kept under House arrest in Aizawl

Two earlier positive cases, also of students who came back from Wuhan, the epicentre of the virus, were reported from Thrissur & Alapuzha districts.

Two persons were placed under house quarantine as a precautionary measure, in view of the coronavirus outbreak, after they landed at the Lengpui airport near Aizawl from China.

An official statement by Mizoram health and family welfare department said on Monday, The statement expressed concern that as a number of students and traders from Mizoram were going to China, the danger of some of them being infected could not be ruled out.

However, it also stated that no coronavirus infection has been detected in the state so far.

“The two persons who returned to Mizoram were quarantined in their own residences as a precautionary measure, and they were neither sick nor have any symptoms of coronavirus,” it said.

The state government from Monday also reinforced the screening of passengers for possible coronavirus infection at the Lengpui airport while screening of people coming from Myanmar was also screened at Mizoram-Myanmar border Zokhawthar trade centre in Champhai district.

Efforts were also made to screen people entering Mizoram from Myanmar and Bangladesh at unofficial trade routes and border haats.

It needs to be mentioned here that a total of three confirmed cases of coronavirus has been registered in India. Yesterday a student from Kerala was confirmed to have gotten the virus. Two earlier positive cases, also of students who came back from Wuhan, the epicentre of the virus, were reported from Thrissur & Alapuzha districts.
