COVID-Era Stimulus: The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reminds taxpayers that the Recovery Rebate Credit for the 2020 tax year is quickly running out.

During the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021, those who did not receive Economic Impact Payments, also known as stimulus checks, were eligible to apply for this credit.

In order to qualify for the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit, taxpayers must file their 2020 tax returns by May 17, 2024, three years after the original filing deadline.

The California Stimulus Payments explained… How much do you qualify for?

The credit is still available to taxpayers with minimal or no income in 2020.

Individuals who passed away in 2020 or later can still claim the credit.

What is the deadline for claiming the stimulus check?

To track down your first or second stimulus payments, you will need to initiate a payment trace if you received Notice 1444, 1444-B, or 1444-C in the mail but have not yet received the payment indicated.

The deadline for claiming the stimulus check for 2021 is April 15, 2025, which aligns with the three-year rule following the April 15, 2022 tax filing deadline.

Individuals who have not yet filed their 2020 tax returns are urged to review their records carefully.

It is likely that many people are unaware that they are entitled to refunds that will no longer be available after the deadline.

In 2020 and 2021, individuals can claim these stimulus payments as part of their tax refunds if they file a tax return and apply for the Recovery Rebate Credit.

Is it possible to track a stimulus payment that has not been received?

On its website, the IRS has been updating the Get My Payment tool with information about the third stimulus payment.

The tool will display the scheduled date for receiving your stimulus payment, or the date it was deposited or mailed, once your details have been updated.

Additionally, the tool will let you know whether your payment was made via direct deposit or mailed to you.
