Cricketer Suresh Raina’s aunt in critical condition, uncle died in an attack in Pathankot

Raina’s uncle was killed in the attack, while other family members were seriously injured.

Chennai Super Kings player has pulled out of Indian Premiere League (IPL) 2020, he relatives of the former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina, had been attacked in Thariyal village of Madhopur area, Pathankot. Raina’s uncle was killed in the attack, while other family members were seriously injured.

As per a report in Jagran, the incident took place on August 19 wherein unidentified assailants attacked the sleeping family. Suresh Raina’s widow aunt is said to be in serious condition.

Raina’s uncle, contractor Ashok Kumar (58) along with his family, was asleep on the terrace. The assailants severely stabbed Kumar with sharp weapons that led to his death.

Ashok Kumar is survived with 55-year-old wife Asha Devi, 32-year-old elder son Kaushal Kumar, 24-year-old son Apin Kumar, and 80-year-old mother Satya Devi who were severely injured in the incident.

A case has been registered in the concerned police station. The attackers have not been identified yet.

Speaking to Jagran, Suresh Raina’s brother Dinesh Raina said that despite the lapse of so many days, the police have not been able to arrest the killers so far. Dinesh said the whole family is shocked by the incident. He has demanded the Punjab government to take stringent action against the accused by immediately scrutinizing their identity.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a big announcement on Saturday, ruling Suresh Raina out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 season. The CSK vice-captain had arrived in UAE with the rest of his Indian teammates and support staff a week ago but is now heading back home in India due to personal reasons.

According to the CSK CEO KS Viswanathan, “Suresh Raina has returned to India for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of the IPL season. Chennai Super Kings offers complete support to Suresh and his family during this time”.

Raina made his last international appearance in 2018 during India’s tour of England and since then has been out-of-favour of the side.
