Cyclone Fani, a severe cyclonic storm, made landfall impact on Friday, May 3, 2019 at around 8 AM and is expected to continue for the next three hours. The area along Puri is witnessing winds with a speed of 145 kilometres per hour that could reach up to 180-200 kmph, which could bring “extensive damage”, Mritunjay Mohapatra, in-charge of the Cyclone Warning Division of the India Meteorological Department, said.
The Odisha government on Thursday evacuated over 11 lakh people from low-lying areas in 15 districts.

10:45 AM | Trees uprooted in Bhubaneswar
The Odisha capital Bhubaneswar also experienced the impact of the cyclone, with several trees uprooted in the city. Heavy to very heavy rainfall continues in Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Jagastinghpur districts. Trees have been uprooted at several places in the region.

Winds in Puri are blowing at a maximum speed of 240-245 km per hour and heavy to very heavy rains are continuing over the Odisha coast, ANI reported quoting officials at IMD Hyderabad. After landfall, the impact is likely to reduce and it is likely to move towards West Bengal coast, the IMD confirmed.
