Dalit girl set ablaze in Uttar Pradesh hospital; 4 accused booked

Four people including two women and an unidentified accused were booked for burning a 15-year-old Dalit girl alive last month. The girl fighting her life later succumbed to her injuries and died at Saifai Medical Hospital in Etawah on Monday morning.

FIR that was lodged on the basis of an attempt to kill will be now turned into an issue of murder. The accused arrested came from a Pilibhit business family who hired the victim to work on his household chores.

The police started acting following a written complaint by the girl’s father, Ramesh Chandra of village Roshanbad under Shamshabad in Farrukhabad. The complainant surfaced personal details to police stating that after his wife’s death two and half years ago, he had left his daughter, Dolly, with his wife’s elder sister, Manju Devi, in Kanpur.

Eight months ago, Manju sent Dolly to Pilibhit to work as a maid at the house of businessman Amandeep Singh Jolly of Surabhi Colony in Pilibhit under Sungarhi police station. At 8 PM on November 25, Jolly informed girl’s father Ramesh Chandra about his daughter’s sickness and told him that she was admitted to a hospital in Bareilly.

When Ramesh rushed to Bareilly to meet his daughter, Jolly and his mother was present there but they did not allow him to meet the girl, the complainant imposed allegations. Jolly forced him to sign many blank papers before letting him meet his daughter,  but after that he was given threats of his murder, the complainant said.

The complainant reiterated that on November 29, he shifted his daughter to Saifai Medical College to get her admitted to Saifai Medical College where she died on Sunday. He alleged that before the girl was shifted to Saifai, Jolly threatened to get her magisterial statement in Pilibhit maneuvered.

After being asked to her father to state the reason as to why the girl was burnt alive, her father said that she could not narrate anything about it and cried every time she was asked to disclose the reason for the atrocity imposed.

SHO Rajesh Kumar said an FIR was lodged against Amandeep Singh Jolly, his mother Manju Devi and also one unidentified person was lodged under the following sections- section 307 (attempt to kill), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and section 3 (2) (v) of the SC/ST act. Now it will be seen as a murder case.
