Delhi Assembly adopts resolution to build Guru Ravidas temple at site where it was demolished

After a huge uproar by Aam Aadmi Party member in the Delhi legislative assembly on Thursday over demolish of the Guru Ravidas temple, a resolution has been adopted to construct a temple at the same site after the Centre allots the land.

The move came after Dalits took to the streets in Delhi to protest the demolition of a Ravidas temple. Holding posters, the MLAs shouted slogans against Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

AAP MLA Ajay Dutt tore open his shirt inside the Assembly to protest against the demolition.

The centuries-old temple Guru Ravidas temple was demolished on August 9 by the Delhi Development Authority as part of a drive to carry out Supreme Court orders.

The demolition has led to a massive controversy and protests by Dalit groups, particularly in Punjab and Delhi, where demonstrators called for a bandh, blocked roads and took out marches.
