Delhi cop dives into Yamuna, put his life to risk to nab a wanted trafficker

Accused Lopsang Lama was a wanted criminal in an international human trafficking case with a reward of Rs 1 lakh on him.

A high voltage drama was witnessed near Kashmere Gate area, where a wanted trafficker jumped into the Yamuna to avoid arrest but later was nabbed by a cop who dived along to catch hold of him. The suspect was trailed by Delhi Police Special Cell.

The man, identified as Lopsang Lama, was a wanted criminal in an international human trafficking case with a reward of Rs 1 lakh on him. DCP Special cell official Sanjay Kumar Yadav said that Lama was involved in a case where 16 Nepalese girls were rescued last year from Munirka.

Yadav also said that Lama was the mastermind behind this trafficking business and he used to send Nepalese girls to Gulf countries in a pretext of offering them jobs.

After the raid took place, Lama was underground and a manhunt was launched by teams of Delhi Police to find him. ACP Sanjay Dutt’s team got a clue that he would come to Wazirabad to meet his contacts and they launched a search operation both electronic & manual and came to know that he would come to Kashmere Gate.

He was stopped by the police officials and to avoid arrest he ran towards Yamuna ghat and jumped into the river to flee but was nabbed by the cop.

During the interrogation, Lama revealed that the 16 girls who were rescued were accommodated in a rented house for 20-22 days and he was making arrangements to take them to Gulf countries. He told that he had fooled the girls in the pretext of providing jobs and took their passports from them. He also disclosed that he ran the racket with his brother in law and his associates in Kuwait. He had made good contacts with international traffickers who in turn would give him a good amount of commission.
