Delhi cops detains Bhim Army chief after he escapes police custody amid CAA protest

The Delhi Police had denied permission to Chandrashekhar Azad's protest march against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Delhi police on Friday detained Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Azad during a protest march from Jama Masjid to Jantar Mantar against the amended Citizenship Act.

According to the reports, Azad initially escaped police custody and ran away after being detained near Jama Masjid. However, he was later detained near Daryaganj.

He lead the protest of hundreds of supporters, during which he shouted slogans and waved flags from the steps of the historic mosque, dramatically defying the police.

The Delhi Police had denied permission to Chandrashekhar Azad’s protest march against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act from Jama Masjid to Jantar Mantar in the heart of Delhi.

The protests came a day after thousands of students, activists and opposition leaders hit the streets in the national capital defying security clampdown and prohibitory orders.
