New Delhi, April 20 (IANS) The containment zone tally in the national capital on Monday reached 84 with five new red zones added in the list.

The five new containment zones are spread across the North-West, East, North and South-East districts in the city.

While four are fresh areas, the one in the South-West district is an extension of the already existing containment zone.

In the South-East district, Gali number 24 to 28 has been made a containment zone after 35 more people tested positive from the existing containment zone between gali number 26 and 27. The earlier containment zone was set up on Friday.

According to the Delhi government, in the North district, two new containment zones have been set up – both in Jahangirpuri — the G block; and Flat number 265 to 500, Sanjay Enclave.

A containment zone also comes up in Trilok Puri in the East district.

“House numbers 34/156 to 34/189 (resettlement colony) Block 34- Trilok Puri, have been made a containment zone in the Trilok Puri area,” the government said.

In the North-West, the entire AF Block in Shalimar Bagh is a containment zone now.

Among the districts, the highest containment zones are in the South East District with 18 such zones, followed by the West district with 13.

The containment zones are announced by the district administration after three or more Covid cases are found in an area. There has been a constant increase in the containment zones in the city. On April 8, there were only 20 containment zones in the city.

After the administration seals a containment zone, the Delhi government starts ‘Operation SHIELD’ — Sealing, Home Quarantine, Isolation and Tracking, Essential Supply, Local Sanitisation and Door-To-Door Checking — to control the spread of the virus.

The containment zones — created to map the local transmission of the disease and prevent it from spreading — completely shuts the movement of the common people in the area with the authorities taking care of the essential supplies. The area and the houses in it are sanitised properly.

Delhi has reported more than 2,000 cases and 45 deaths related to Covid-19 so far.
