New Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS) Following the violence in North-East Delhi where clashes broke out between pro and anti-CAA protesters, claiming 10 lives besides injuring nearly 180 others, the Delhi Police on Tuesday issued a circular appealing people to maintain peace in the area.

“In the last two days some incidents of stone pelting, arson and damage to property have occurred in some pockets of North-East Delhi area.

“Delhi Police are making all earnest efforts, including deployment of reinforcement and involving respectable citizens of the area, to restore normalcy,” the circular said.

The hotspots of the violent clashes are Maujpur, Babarpur, Jafrabad and Kardampuri, in a radius of about 4 km. In the last 48 hours, the government has claimed that 10 people, including a Delhi Police head constable, have been killed and 56 police personnel and 119 residents have been injured.

The Delhi Police appealed to all citizens of Delhi to co-operate with the law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and harmony in the city. The people were also advised not to lend an ear to rumour mongers and unverified messages being circulated on social media.

“Delhi Police have kept strict vigil on such mischievous elements and miscreants. Strict legal action will be taken against those who are found involved in these incidents. It is also urged that social media platforms should be used with responsibility. Public cooperation is solicited in maintaining peace,” the circular said.

On Tuesday night, the police put barricades and sealed all the roads leading to Ghaziabad from North-East Delhi. Ghaziabad District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Pandey, said, “Keeping in mind the violence in Delhi, we have sealed the borders. There is peace in our district. We have also closed all the wine shops in the nearby areas.”
