New Delhi, July 15 (IANS) The southwest monsoon that was elusive for last 10 days made a comeback on Monday, recording 28.8 mm of rainfall in just one spell, bringing much-needed relief to the people in Delhi and surrounding areas.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), rains were recorded across National Capital Region (NCR) with some places receiving heavy rains on Monday afternoon, which led to a dip in temperature.

On Monday, mercury levels hovered between 26.6-34.7 degrees Celsius and the sky remained cloudy throughout the day.

The heavy rains coupled with strong winds of strength 60 kmph led the visibility to drop to 500 m at the airport, as per the private forecaster Skymet.

Light rains with thunderstorms are expected on Tuesday as well, said the IMD.

On Monday, rains and thunderstorms occurred at most places over Uttarakhand and Punjab along with parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Fairly widespread precipitation is forecast in the western Himalayan region and over the plains of northwest India, except Rajasthan, in the next two days.
