Indian movie star Manoj Bajpayee on Thursday, September 19, tweeted in support of Aarey Forest“ which could see 2700 trees cut due to Mumbai Metro project. Bajpayee said, “destroying green cover for ‘development’ is going to have devastating consequences.”

“Aarey Forest in Mumbai, Aravalli hills in Gurgaon, the Bullet Train project… destroying green cover for “development” is going to have devastating consequences. It’s time we strike back. Join the #GlobalClimateStrikeIndia in your city from Sep 20-27. #ChangeIsComing,” The Gangs of Wasseypur sensation tweeted.

The tweet comes in light of the recent protests by Mumbaikars against the proposed cutting of 2,700 trees of Aarey forest to accommodate a Metro car shed project. The project has stirred a debate, with celebrities supporting either sides.

On Monday, September 16, another Bollywood celebrity John Abraham had shared a video in support of the forest. “Aarey the world’s only urban biodiverse forest, is our lung. We must Stand Up, Speak Up, Show Up to Protect it. Not against Development. Not against Metro. Just against any of it in Aarey or any forest,” the actor wrote in a tweet.

“A lot of people tell me that it is really good that you are part of this campaign, taking out time from your busy schedule and going out there. My retort is it’s nothing special. We have to do this. I don’t think it’s a big deal because it should be the most normal thing any of us should be do,” Actor Shraddha Kappor had sad in Mumbai on September 10, about joining the #SaveAarey campaign. Actors Katrina Kaif and Arjun Rampal had also extended their support to the campaign.
