A recent data released by the Western Railways about the number of items stolen, missing and sold from the trains must put citizens to shame.

According to a report, due to a few passengers’ petty behaviour in the last fiscal alone 1.95 lakh towels were stolen from its long-distance trains, besides 81,736 bedsheets, 55,573 pillow covers, 5,038 pillows, and 7,043 blankets. In a great train robbery that is playing out every year, around 200 toilet mugs disappear, while close to 1,000 taps and more than 300 flush pipes are stolen.

As reported by Mirror Now, the Indian Railways has incurred huge loss over few last fiscals and thefts on trains are major contributors to the railways bleeding cash.

From bed linens to pillows together with toilet mugs and even iron grills of the windows, nothing has escaped the eye of passengers when it comes to casually stuffing things in their bags and carry it home. Some in fact make their way to the scrap market and fetch a decent price. Such items were among stolen property worth Rs 2.97 crore recovered by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in 2017-18.
