Donate a Day's Wages To Charity Day

Give a Day’s Pay to Charity Day is observed annually on the second Wednesday of May, and this year’s celebrations will take place on May 10. The day is set aside to be kind to the less fortunate in society and to donate to charitable organisations worldwide. In 2009, a married couple named Eugene and Minhee Cho created this holiday. On this day, some organisations host fundraising events where individuals donate money, volunteer their time, or share their professional expertise for free.

HISTORY OF DONATE A DAY’S WAGES TO CHARITY DAY

Donate a Day’s Wages to Charity Day is part of the “One Day’s Wages” (O.D.W) movement, which was founded in 2009 in Seattle, Washington by Eugene Cho and his wife, Minhee. Cho is the founding and previous senior pastor of ‘Quest Church.’ The couple had saved for three years and created a Facebook group titled “Fight Global Poverty” in order to make an initial investment of $68,000 towards their ambition of assisting in the fight against one of the world’s deadliest diseases: poverty.

Cho claims that the concept of O.D.W. began in 2006, when he visited Myanmar. He observed the condition of the schools and learned how much the instructors earned annually. Cho stated in an interview, “We are neither impoverished nor wealthy. We are merely a privileged middle-class family because we have so many opportunities that many people in the world do not. When queried about the extreme poverty in the world and why he decided to move forward with his plans, he responded, “It doesn’t have to be this way and it shouldn’t be this way. We can halt global extreme poverty.”

Since its inception, “One Day’s Wages” has expanded to become an international movement, with donors supporting various charity initiatives in more than 44 countries. In addition to raising funds, it has provided a forum for charities and nonprofit organisations to discuss their mission and objectives. It is also a day to recognise the transparent and reliable charity organisations in the world, as well as the volunteers, benefactors, and partners who go above and beyond to share their passion for charity.
