Even though India has not opened its medal account at the Rio Olympics and we have already witnessed the fall of some big athletes and teams, here’s a list of some other athletes we can count on.
Dipa Karmakar: Dipa has risen to global fame after she executed the ‘Vault of Death’, also known as the Produnova. She will perform at the vault finals of the Games on August 14.
Heena Sidhu: She will participate in the 10 metre air pistol qualification rounds on Tuesday.
Jitu Rai: To aim for a medal in the 50 metre air pistol event.
Vikas Krishan, Shiva Thapa and Manoj Kumar: The three Indian boxers can bring home a medal; India’s second-ever Olympic medal in boxing.
Saina Nehwal: The former World No 1 and bronze medallist in the London Olympics will be playing in the prelims on August 11 and 14.
P V Sindhu: The World No 10 will be playing on August 11 and 14.
Men’s hockey team: The team has put on a splendid performance in the first two matches, despite its loss to Germany.
Narsingh Yadav, Yogeshwar Dutt: They will be wrestling on Sunday, August 14.
Sania Mirza, Rohan Bopanna: The duo will be playing the mixed doubles category of the tennis event.
