Delhi University has included Chetan Bhagat’s novel ‘Five Point Someone’ as part of the English literature syllabus from the next academic year.
Bhagat’s novel is part of the Popular Fiction paper in the General Elective, which is offered to second-year undergraduate students under the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS).
Louisa M Alcott’s ‘Little Women’, Agatha Christie’s ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ and JK Rowling’s ‘Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone’ will also be taught under this paper.
Bhagat, who had been widely criticised for the lack of eloquence in writing, took to Twitter to share the news and lashed out against the ‘elitist readers’ for degrading his literary works.
Am honoured DU added my books to their course. Literature is about being open minded, reading the classics as well as the contemporary.

Elitistaan theories trying to diss me and literary value of my books have failed miserably with DU adding my books to their course. Sorry.

To me good literature is writing that actually touches people, whether in the past or now. It isn’t something an elitist club decides.

Meanwhile, Twitterati responded with befitting replies to the country’s popular author.
@chetan_bhagat Agree. Was saying to a teacher who taught language writing classes that she should teach you.

@chetan_bhagat It doesn’t raise your level by an inch, rather it diminishes whatever level DU ever had!!!

@chetan_bhagat I am an uncool person who dissed your books because they insult my intelligence. Coz I have a brain and been reading since I was 4, thanks.

@chetan_bhagat They added your books in the course just to prove that, sometimes in life shit happens. ?
