Ecuadorian couple sets Guinness World Record, becomes world's oldest married couple

Julio Cesar Mora and Waldramina Quintero have been recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest married couple in the world, with a combined age of 214 years and 358 days.

Julio Mora was born on March 10, 1910, while Waldramina was born on October 16, 1915. Both of them are Ecuadorian.

The couple met in 1934 and married in 1941 and credit for their long lasting relationship goes to the love and respect that they have held towards each other since their very first meeting. Julio Mora decided to leave his parents to marry his ladylove Waldramina Quinteros. Both of their families disapproved of their marriage. Against all odds, these two not only sustained their marriage but are still going strong for nearly 80 years.

‘Family unity under the rules of love, mutual respect, honest work, and proper education based on family values are the keys to healthy coexistence,’ said the couple, according to the record-keeping site.

Their daughter Cecilia says they are both lucid and active, although they no longer have the agility they had before. But “for a month they have been different, more downcast because they miss a large family gathering. She said her father enjoys watching television and drinking milk and that her mother, who enjoys desserts, likes to read the newspaper every morning.

The couple has four surviving children, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
