In a major jolt to caretaker Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Tamil Nadu Governor Vidyasagar Rao on Thursday resolved the political crisis in Tamil Nadu by inviting V K Sasikala loyalist Edappadi K Palaniswami to form the government. The dispute was going on in the state for the last couple of weeks now.

However, the governor gave Palaniswami 15 days time to show his strength in the assembly. But the suspense over the prospect of the state government ended after Palaniswami, together with a delegation of senior AIADMK leaders, met Vidyasagar at the Raj Bhavan.

Palaniswami may sworn-in as chief minister at 4.30 pm today. He claims he has the support of at least 124 AIADMK MLAs while the mark to reach the majority is 117.

On Wednesday evening, the governor acknowledged the claim of Palaniswami after to form the govt after “Palaniswami submitted a list of 124 legislators. He met TN governor C Vidyasagar Rao along with nine others around 7.30pm on Wednesday.

However, just after the AIADMK team concluded their meeting, OPS reached there with his squad and sought his interference to “set free” MLAs from the Koovathur resort, before taking a final decision on the ongoing crisis. “We explained the situation to the governor that most of the MLAs are unlawfully confined to the resort for nearly a week, against their wishes,” said a leader.
