Bakrid Mubarak 2020: Eid-al-Adha, also known as Bakrid in India will be celebrated on August 1 and July 31 across the world as announced by Saudi Arabia. While Eid-al-Fitr marks the end of the month-long fasting period of Ramadan, Bakrid is known to conclude the annual Haj pilgrimage.

According to the Islamic Calendar, the date of Bakrid, is supposed to be on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah or the ‘month of the pilgrimage’. Muslims usually go on pilgrimage on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of the month culminating in the Eid al-Adha.

On Eid al-Adha, many Muslims pray and listen to a sermon at a mosque nearby. They also wear new clothes, visit friends and family. Many Muslims symbolically sacrifice a goat or a sheep as an act of Qurbani. Muslims around the world offer prayers, attend sermons, feast on delicious food, give charity to the poor and share their resources, food, and celebrations with their relatives, neighbours, and friends.

This year the celebrations of Bakrid is likely to be low key due to the ongoing coronavirus spread. As religious places and large social gathering are prohibited to restrain the pandemic, it is suggested to stay at home and celebrate the festival of sacrifice, Bakrid.
