Eight persons were detained in Jharkhand on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the attack on Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s convoy at Kishoreganj Chowk here a day before, police said.

According to the police, interrogation was underway in connection with the incident and scanning of all the CCTV camera footage at the incident site has also been initiated.

Soren’s convoy was attacked by some unidentified persons on Monday evening. The miscreants were part of a protest that was staged at Kishoreganj Chowk after a beheaded and naked body of a woman was found in a forest in Ormanjhi two days back. The demonstrators demanded the arrest of the culprits behind the incident.

Jharkhand DGP M.V. Rao has termed the attack a conspiracy.

“We will not allow such kind of hooliganism. There is a conspiracy hatched behind the attack. Stern action will be taken against those involved in the incident,” the DGP told mediapersons on Tuesday.

Former Chief Minister and BJP leader Babulal Marandi has termed the “Ormanjhi woman’s incident” as a spontaneous outrage.

The main opposition party, the BJP has termed the incident as unfortunate and slammed the Soren government over the poor law and order situation in the state.

The Congress has blamed the BJP for the attack on the CM’s convoy.
