After being criticised by the United Nations for alleged human rights violation, India reacted strongly to the allegations. UNHRC had come down heavily on India over issues such as the move to deport Rohingya Muslims, intolerance, Gauri Lankesh murder, and Kashmir.

Reacting on this, India said, “India is concerned about illegal migrants, in particular, with the possibility that they could pose security challenges.” “Enforcing the laws should not be mistaken for lack of compassion,” India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Syed Akbaruddin said.

“We believe achieving human rights goals calls for objective consideration, balanced judgments, and verification of facts,” Akbaruddin added.

On the issue of Kashmir, India said, “Issue of human rights situations in J&K raised. Matter of regret that central role of terrorism being overlooked,” India said.

The UNHRC criticized India and 39 other nations for alleged human rights violation. It said that it condemns the “current measures in India to deport Rohingyas at a time of such violence against them in their country.” India cannot send Rohingya Muslims back to a place where they were facing atrocities, high commissioner of UNHRC, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said.
