IP address

Usually, if someone asks you for your address, you will either provide them with your residential or business address. Similarly, a computer has an address.

Computer is a device, and they prefer numbers as their address, and these numbers are then specifically used to identify them, which is referred to as an IP address. Therefore, IP stands for “internet protocol” and it is part of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. TCP/IP is the language used for communication by most networks.

In a simple way, the computer uses nos. to communicate and that nos. are referred to as IP addresses.

IP addresses are 32-bit numbers shown as four decimal numbers with a range of 0 to 255. These are separated by dots and each set of three numbers is called an octet. This IPv4 address can range from 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255 and has limitations of over 4 billion IP addresses.

How Many IP addresses can Computers maintain

Computers have several IP addresses and it depends how the computer is communicating with the rest of the network. In order to connect to the internet, the computer uses the IP address of the router. This IP address is generally assigned to the router by your internet service provider. As a result, these IP addresses are dynamic and will change at a later stage.

How to find an IP address of your device

There are two types of addresses that are associated with your computer

There are two types of IP addresses: public (or external) IP addresses and local (or internal) IP addresses. The public address is provided by your internet service provider (ISP) and is how the internet recognizes your network.

Each device on your local network, including your computer, has a unique local IP address that is usually assigned by the router on your internal network.

Ways to find your Public IP address

There are several simple ways to identify your public IP address. The easiest way to find your IP address is to use a free online tool such as HMA’s IP checker. The HMA tool quickly tells you your IP address, your location, and your ISP.

Another way to find your public IP address is to use Google search. Simply type in “what is my IP address” or “how to find my IP address” and the search engine will tell you — though it won’t reveal your location.

Remember that these tools tell you your public IP address — the one the internet uses to find your network — not the local IP address behind your router.
