Dr Megha Vyas Death News: Over the last few weeks, frontline doctors fighting the coronavirus are among those who are most exposed to the infectious disease. Hundreds of doctors and nurses have been tested positive for COVID-19 off late and many of them have lost their lives.

CLAIM:

Some social media posts including former BJP MP Hariom Pandey shared on Twitter claiming that Pune-based Dr Megha Vyas is the latest victim of coronavirus.

Posting a photo of a woman, social media users are claiming that she died while being treated for coronavirus infection.

Theses posts claim that the woman in the post got infected while treating COVID-19 patients.

TRUTH BEHIND THESE POSTS:

A thorough search on social media revealed that it is being falsely claimed that the woman in the photo is Dr Megha Vyas and she died of coronavirus. Several people have now started commenting ‘Fake News’ on such posts.

Megha Srikant Sharma tested negative for coronavirus.

According to a website Fact Crescendo, it contacted the woman’s husband – Dr Srikant Sharma – who clarified that his wife Megha passed away on April 22 but she was not a doctor.

He said that posts the Megha died of coronavirus are bogus because her COVID-19 test report was negative. She was undergoing treatment at Jehangir Hospital in Pune. He shared a report from the hospital which clearly states that Megha was not infected with the coronavirus.

“I am a doctor in Pune. My wife was a housewife. Many false claims are being made about her demise on social media. The Sharma family appeals to people to stop spreading fake news about Megha’s death,” Srikant was quoted as saying by the website.

CONCLUSION:

This proves that the woman in the posts going viral is Megha Srikant Sharma and she was not a doctor. Also, she did not die because of coronavirus. The viral post is False.
